Compared to January of last year this year export considerably decreased.
According to the state enterprise "Derzhzovnіšinform", scrap metal export in January 2018 was (33.8 thousand tons), which is 90.7% more than in January 2019 (3.1 thousand tons). The profitability of exporters one year ago was $10 million per month, but now the numbers hardly reach $900 thousand.
At the same time import of scarp on the contrary increased by 40.5%. From this, importers paid less for bigger quantity of goods.
The statistics confirms the perniciousness of the situation, and if the metallurgical law is adopted, the Committee on Industrial Policy and the export duty increase to € 58/ton, domestic metal scrap producers will have to compete with suppliers of imported scrap, which ultimately will lead to a narrowing of the domestic market for scrap processing.
