At the G20 summit in Buenos Aires, the heads of three North American states - the USA, Canada and Mexico - signed a new USMCA trade agreement, which should replace the 1994 NAFTA agreement.
The agreement is still subject to ratification by parliaments. Moreover, if in Canada and Mexico no significant difficulties are expected, then problems may arise in the United States, since the lower house of Congress is controlled by the opposition Democratic Party.
Anyway, the signing of the agreement did not lead to the abolition of US tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum products for Canada and Mexico. Accordingly, the reciprocal restrictions on the supply of American goods, which they have introduced, remain in force.
