The Ministry of Environment and Environment of China issued a decree according to which eight categories of ferrous metal scrap, as well as aluminum and copper scrap will be included in the list of hazardous waste, the import of which is restricted.
In particular, about 99% of Chinese imports of aluminum scrap fall under the new restrictions. In 2018, the volume of imports of this material is estimated at 1.56 million tons.
According to the Chinese edition of the Shanghai Metals Market, in 2018, China also received 1.27 million tons of copper contained in scrap from abroad. At the same time, more than 1 million tons fell on category 7 (scrap, containing less than 5% of copper, for the most part, cables and electric motors), the import of which is completely prohibited since the beginning of 2019.
