Russia will cut for scrap a Ukrainian submarine seized in 2014

23.06.2019
Russia decided to dispose of the submarine Zaporozhye captured in 2014 (Project U-001) 641 of the Ukrainian Navy. The relevant decision was announced by the Russian Ministry of Defense at a tender for the disposal of a number of ships. About this reports Ukrainian militarist portal >>

Reference: “Zaporozhye” - a large diesel torpedo submarine of Project 641. It was built in 1971, initially served in the North of the USSR, and later transferred to the Black Sea Fleet. When it divided the fleet, it went to Ukraine after 1991. By this time it was significantly worn out, therefore spent more time on repairs from 1991 to 2014 than on hikes, and since 2014, after seizing in Sevastopol, it has been without any repairs or maintenance for five years.

The Sevastopol Military History Museum of fortifications is ready to pick up and turn into an exhibit the only Ukrainian submarine Zaporizhia remaining in the Crimea, said TASS director Yury Tarary.

We hope that we can save the submarine as a museum piece and it will be a symbol of the revival of the Ukrainian Navy submarine fleet.
