Turkish scrap imports increased by 25%

In January-October, Turkish steel mills increased steel scrap imports by 2.6%, to 17.5 million tons, according to the Turkish Iron & Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

In monetary terms, the figure rose by 25.4% to $ 6.1 billion. Scrap supplies from the United States grew by 8.4% to 3.2 million tons, from the CIS countries - by 5.7% to 2.4 million tons., from the EU decreased by 0.5% to 10.4 million tons.

The EU's share in the total import of scrap metal to Turkey was 60%, the US - 18%, the CIS - 14%. In January-August, metallurgical enterprises in Turkey increased imports of steel scrap by 12.8% compared to the same period in 2017, to 14.6 million tons.

As previously reported, in October, the metallurgical enterprises of Turkey produced 3.2 million tons of crude steel. In September, exports of rebar from Turkey increased by 3% compared to the same period in 2017, to 508 thousand tons, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute.
