The refusal of the leading countries from the production of steel by the open-hearth method and the transition to a more environmentally-friendly production - power plants led to an increase in the consumption of scrap metal.
Despite the fact that in the structure of world production of metal products, the share of electric steel in 2014 increased by only 8.9 pp compared to the same period of 1974, the global volumes of foreign trade in scrap metal increased by 4.4–4.6 times:
If the metallurgists do not make the appropriate strategic decisions, we can finally lose the leading position in world markets and lose the status of an exporter of high-tech metallurgical products.
