The Ukrainian scrap metal market continues to stagnate. Scrap collection for 9 months decreased by 12.3% - to 2.19 million tons. This is due to a decrease in production in metallurgy and an imbalance in prices in the domestic market.

Ferrous scrap prices on international markets began to decline due to difficulties in selling finished rolled products (rebar). Last week (September 24 - October 1) quotations of ferrous scrap HMS 1& (80:20) dropped to USD 290-300/mt CIF Turkey. Analysts predict a continuation of the downward trend.

Last week, the purchase price of ferrous scrap decreased by UAH 100 - to UAH 5700/mt. In the future, the Ukrainian market will be dominated by a downward trend in prices due to weakening demand for rolled products in foreign markets and high stocks at steelmaking enterprises.

A decrease in production and demand for finished rolled products pushed domestic ferrous scrap prices down from September 17-24 to the level of UAH 5800 / ton. The level of meeting the needs of metallurgical plants for ferrous scrap was 104%, which indicates that next week prices are likely to remain the same.
